these are some html pages of an island journal i started working on while living on a remote island in the Russian pacific. the island is called Antsiferov. from May 23 to July 20, 2004, there were two of us on the island (Sergey and me), collecting data on sealions. i made the pages on the laptop we used to enter data on sealion.
i had to leave russia because of some visa difficulties. now i am in north germany where there are many people and machines and flat surfaces and other things that are still bewildering to me.
since i just received an email from a friend bob in a cafe where the internet card works magically well ... incompletness be damned ... i am posting some pages in no particular order.
as a brief intro - this is my first glimpse of the island:
these are our provisions:
this is the boat that took me away from the world of people:
this is an ok shot of the animals that i observed. they are called steller sealions. i never got around to making pages or generating text about them. they are very subtle, strong, lazy, playful animals. when you look at them for nine hours a day you find it difficult to distinguish them from people:
there are a few more pictures of sealions here
here is a list of prepared pages in slightly particular order. mostly they are about birds.
hopefully i will find time to flesh stuff out and incorporate some more text that already exists... i am a little more distracted here, in the people world, than i was on the island. and my brain is getting muddier as well.
